Relax – your headshot is going to be extraordinary

Professional headshot photographer

A great headshot can give someone an idea of your personality before they meet you. It portrays you in your best light and conveys your professionalism. With social media playing such an important part of business promotion, professional headshots have a much broader reach than in the past when they were used for corporate websites and speaking engagement materials.

The best headshots result when the subject is relaxed and comfortable. I know the tips and tricks for how to make a photo shoot fun and relaxed. I like to share my experience to help clients prepare for photoshoots – clothing selection, location and lighting.

“The best professional headshots CT has to offer! For the first time in my career I have a headshot that I am proud to share. Thank you for making me look so great!” — J.D.

What to wear?

Your wardrobe choice should make your feel comfortable and confident! This will help bring out your most authentic, relaxed self in your photos. If you are uncertain about what you think will look best for you, please bring a few options that we can discuss together and change into if needed.

Women

  • It is best to choose solid, soft colors or very subtle prints to keep the focus on the face as opposed to the clothing. I suggest avoiding neck scarves and large statement jewelry like big earrings and necklaces.

  • For tops, please choose the best neckline that works for you. A “v-neck” top, such as a collared shirt, is a universally flattering style for most women. A long sleeve, 3/4 sleeve or sleeveless shirt works better than short sleeves that cut at the upper arm (mid bicep).

  • Clothing layers, i.e. blazer and blouse, can look bulky, so consider wearing just one layer.

  • If you like to wear heels and feel it will help you with your posing, please do.

  • Avoid makeup with a glossy sheen because it can add too much shine to face and lips.

Men

  • It is best to choose solid, soft colors to keep the focus on the face as opposed to the clothing. I suggest subtle patterned ties to go with solid blazers.

  • For later in the day sessions, please be mindful of possible 5 o’clock shadow. Best to shave before the photoshoot if you want a clean-shaven look.

  • Make sure your hair is dry for the session.
